  3. Despite a lack of marriage record, Source:Allis, Horatio D. Genealogy of William Allis of Hatfield, Mass., and Descendants, 1630-1919, calls William Allis' wife "Elizabeth Davis of Northampton". It is not clear what this is based on, and no identification of her parents or birth is provided. Looking through Northampton records, the most likely candidate is Elizabeth, d/o Samuel Davis. In the settlement of Samuel's estate, the daughter are given a share of the personal estate but no land, suggesting limited opportunities to identify Elizabeth through subsequent land sales. The accounting shows a payment to Elizabeth Davice. This is in 1702 before the estimated marriage date, so is of no help. The secondary literature is not very helpful. For example, Source:Dwight, Benjamin Woodbridge. History of the Descendants of Elder John Strong, of Northampton, Mass, p. 1420, says Elizabeth was b. 1679 and d. 1682. However, they use the same death date for Samuel's second wife Elizabeth, and the single death record actually found is written without parents' names, so it appears to be a mistake to apply it to the young girl (confirmed by her mention in the accounting as noted above). Source:Temple, Josiah Howard. History of the Town of Northfield, Massachusetts, for 150 Years, p. 428, does not list a daughter named Elizabeth in Samuel's family, though Northampton records show the birth of two. Source:Davis, George Lucien. Samuel Davis, of Oxford, Mass., and Joseph Davis, of Dudley, Mass., and Their Descendants, lists a daughter Elizabeth b. 20 Jun 1679 without noticing a second daughter Elizabeth was born Aug 1680, a month before the first wife Hannah died. Source:Guilford, Joan S. Ancestry of Dr. J. P. Guilford, p. 260, seems to be the only source that gives a marriage for Elizabeth and she shows her husband being William Allis.
