  1. Elizabeth's maiden name was given as Cooke by Crozier. Jim White claimed in Buckner Descendant Generations (as repeated by many websites, e.g. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=adgedge&id=I60960) that he had proved this to be incorrect and that the name was in fact "Sampson." However, White's sources for this alleged proof do not exist. The first fake source is their alleged marriage in James City, VA in 1689 and the second is the alleged marriage of Richard's supposed parents, Richard Buckner and Lydia Topping on 21 Sep 1661 in Solebury, Buckinghamshire, England. Neither of these marriages are documented in primary sources, despite White's assertions. As Crozier himself states (p. 34) "there is no documentary evidence" to support the idea that her name was Cooke, but neither have any credible alternatives or counter arguments been presented in the open literature on the subject. She appears frequently in Caroline Co. court records up into the 1750s, so she was probably considerably younger than her husband. As late as 8 Nov 1753, she petitioned the court to divide the estate of her late husband (some 20 years after his death). Though the will is not extant, this probably reflects her desire to complete the settlement of the estate, despite her continuing life interest.
