Elizabeth Cam's origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 19th April 1756 when she married a weaver called William Bonser at Colston Bassett in Nottinghamshire. They went on to have five children baptised at Colston Bassett between 1757 and 1766.

In 1766 Elizabeth's youngest daughter, Sarah was baptised on 4th February, but was buried just three days later. Elizabeth did not long survive her daughter, being buried less than a month later, on 3rd March 1766. William survived her by eleven years.

  2.   The name Cam does not appear in Colston Bassett until 1749/50, after which there seem to be only four appearances of the name in the registers there:
bur. 8 Feb 1749/50, John Cam
bur. 17 Dec 1755, John Cam, bachelor
    m. 19 Apr 1756, William Bonsor & Elizabeth Cam
bur. 11 Dec 1759, Sarah Cam, widow
It seems plausible to think that perhaps Elizabeth was daughter of John d.1749/50 and Sarah, and the other John was her brother, and that the family was originally from somewhere else and moved to Colston Bassett before 1749. One possibility might be that Elizabeth was the Elizabeth Cam daughter of John and Sarah Cam baptised 28th November 1731 at Long Clawson, Leicestershire, which is about five miles south of Colston Bassett, although baptisms for any other children of that couple have yet to be found (they married at Long Clawson on 16th January 1730/1 as John Cam and Sarah Marriot).
