Facts and Events
Eliza Swallow was born on 31st July 1832 and baptised a couple of months later at Wheathampstead in Hertfordshire. She was the daughter of Hannah Swallow, who was an unmarried 18 year old living with her parents at Hollybush, a row of cottages near the hamlet of Mackerye End to the west of Wheathampstead parish. Eliza's father was a shoemaker named William Pearse from the nearby town of St Albans. He was not named on Eliza's baptism, but he was declared to be her father at the Michaelmas Quarter Sessions later in 1832.
Eliza's mother Hannah married a man named William Thompson two years after Eliza's birth. The 1841 census finds Eliza living with her grandmother Sarah Swallow at Gustard Wood, a hamlet in the north of Wheathampstead parish. She has yet to be researched after 1841.
