Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. : Querry, Elisha - entered service 1777 in 11th Pennsylvania Regiment; granted Pention in Botetourt County, Virginia, 1818, per County Court Clerk Henry Bowyer; resided there abt. age 65, 1820, occupation laborer, when had wife age 40, & children Elisha age 19, William age 17, George age 15, James age 11, Liddy age 7, John age 6 & Betsy age 4 living with him, per County Justices of the Peace Benjamin Carper, John Moore, Samuel Wilson & Jacob Rudisell; soldier died 6/20/1836 there per County Court Clerk William McLeach; married 6/22/1792 to Sarah, daughter of Thomas & Lydia Brown, Little York, Pennsylvania; widow granted Pension age 62 in Roanoke County, Virginia in 1838 per County Justice of the Peace John F.J. White & County Court Clerk William M. Cook, widow's Pension agent then was John McCauley; Elizabeth Williams nee Smith made affidavit in 1840 there that she was born 2/7/1774, married on same day & same place as soldier's widow, & her son mentioned but not named moved to St. Joseph, Missouri & also soldier's widow was raised by Elizabeth's mother & married at her mother's house, per County Justice of the Peace James Kyle; widow resided 1841 in Roanoke County, Virginia; children's births (15 children, these 9 reached adulthood): Mary Magdalen 5/2/1796 (married, resided 1841 in Illinois & has grandchildren), Elisha 1/1/1799 (married, resides in Illinois), William 6/18/1803 (married, resides in Indiana), George W. 1/7/1806 (married, resides in Illinois), James 10/18/1809 (married, resides in Illinois), Lydia Margaret 9/8/1813 (resides with mother in 1841), John 1/8/1816 (resides with mother), Elizabeth Ann 2/7/1818 (resides with mother) & Nathaniel 5/22/1820 (resides with mother in 1841); Nancy W. Daniel made affidavit 1841 in Roanoke County, Virginia that she knew soldier's widow since childhood, per County Justice of the Peace William Peyton; Katherine Galbreath made affidavit age 73 in Botetourt County, Virginia in 1847 that she saw soldier & wife married by Reverend John Geringer, also widow's father Thomas Brown was sergeant in Revolutionary War; died in Revolutionary War service per Coutny Justice of the Peace Henry M. Bowyer; widow resided 1846 age 70 in Greenbrier County, Virginia, per County Justice of the Peace David Hanna, Deputy County Court Clerk John A. North, & County presiding justice Mason Mathews; widow gave power of attorney in 1852 there to J.H.G. Mccutcheon for Pension increase claim, witnesses Robert & William Shawver; son-in-law John D. McClung resided 1853 in Clear Creek, Raleigh County, Virginia; soldier's widow granted Bounty Land Warrant #6262 in Greenbrier County, Virginia, 1855; query letter in file in 1916 from great granddaughter Mrs. Drusilla Handwerker of Washington, D.C., says soldier's widow got Pension up to 1863-64.
