    The data pertains to Elijah Bailey and was obtained from pension claim, W 16823, based upon his service in the Revolutionary War. Elijah Bailey was born in Scituate, Plymouth Co, Massachusetts, date not given, nor are the names of his parents. While a resident of Chesterfield, Berkshire Co, MA, Elijah Bailey enlisted sometime in January, 1780, served as a private in Captain Caleb Clapp's company, was in a battle at East Chester and in a skirmish about twelve miles from New York City, and was discharged from the 4th Massachusetts regiment on 4 Nov 1783.

    He was allowed pension on his application executed 11 Apr 1818, at which time he was a resident of Hague, Essex Co, NY, aged sixty years.

    Elijah Bailey married 20 Mar 1779 in Chesterfield, MA, Susannah Litchfield; they were both then of said Chesterfield, and were married at the home of Jacob Litchfield. It is not stated that Jacob and Susannah Litchfield were relatives. After their marriage, Elijah and Susannah Bailey lived in Chesterfield eight or nine years and moved to Shoreham, VT, where they lived until 1797, thence to Ticonderoga, NY, and in 1803 moved to Hague, NY. The soldier, Elijah Bailey, died in Hague, 9 Mar 1825.

    The widow, Susannah Bailey, married 16 Jun 1828, Timothy S. Barton of Bolton, NY. He died 30 Jun 1844. Susannah Barton was allowed pension on account of the service of her husband, Elijah Bailey, on her application executed, 14 Sep 1844, at which time she was eighty-four years of age and living in Ticonderoga, NY.

    Elijah Bailey and his wife, Susannah, had ten children-- Justus, Sophia, both born in Chesterfield, MA; Elijah, Joshua, Susanna, Betsey were born in Shoreham, VT; Ira, Miranda, Lucy were born in Ticonderoga, NY; and one born in Hague who died in infancy, name not given. Their son, Elijah Bailey, was living in 1844 in Hague, NY, then aged 56 years; ages of other children not stated.
