Morgan's Raid

SIXTY YEARS AGO
Sixty years ago Friday July 20, 1863, John Morgan with his raiders passed through Vinton County, coming from Vinton Furnace where they pressed in Manager -- Brown(__) of the Furnace Co., to pilot them through to the main road that leads north into Hocking County. They arrived at the Eli Dunkle place now Geo. (__) Wrightsel's farm 1 1/2 miles from here late in the night the 20th, gathered up several of the farmer's horses and foraged off the country f(____) food, leaving there along about 10 o'clock on the 21st and camping that night on the Karns farm at Creola.
