(Very interesting write-up about Samuel Scott and his family.)

Mr. Scott [Samuel Scott, b. 29 Apr 1815, Jackson Co., OH, son of Judge Thomas Scott, a J.P. in Jackson Co. until 1823, when he moved to St. Mary's and lived in the neighborhood of a blockhouse with no more than 12 families living in that neighborhood, an Associate Judge of Mercer Co in 1825, died in 1826 at the age of 49, his wife (mother of Samuel) was Elizabeth Keller, died in 1822, had 9 children, but only 2 survive in 1892, our subject and Mrs. Mary Richmond of Vinton Co.] Samuel Scott lived a year with an uncle in Mercer Co., then moved to live with an uncle in Athens Co. for several years. Mr. Scott was married in 1839 to Miss Charlotte Dunkle, with whom he lived very happily until her death in 1849, while yet in the bloom of womanhood, deprived him of the companionship of a good wife, to whose memory he has remained faithful ever since. Four children were born of their marriage: Thomas; John, deceased; Sabert, deceased, and Mary. Thomas and Sabert rendered their country gallant service throughout the war of the Rebellion, and Sabert afterward served in the regular army five years.
