Eleanor Shanks

Eleanor Shanks was born to the union of Holden Shanks and Elender Samples.

She married Rev. James Lewis French in 1813 in Tennessee and together they had 12 children.

Her children are: Lewis, Elijah, Sarah, Moses, Love Ann, Azele, Lafford, Elenor, Elizabeth, William, Joseph, and Rutha.

James and Eleanor (nee Shanks) French moved to Ebell about 1831 from Tennessee. James was a Methodist Minister and Farmer. They had Children, most of whom moved to Narvarro County, Texas. James was the son of Lafford French born 1753. Lafford a veteran of the Revolutionary War died September 11, 1831 and was buried in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Thomas French, Progenitor, was born 1639, Nether Heyford, Northampton, England. He was a Quaker who was persecuted for his beliefs. He and his wife had nine children. The came to America on H. M. S. Kent and landed at Burlington, New Jersey on August of 1680. He died 1699.
