Eleanor and David's marriage as yet has not been located. To date, this researcher has not seen proof of her surname. Some say she was Eleanor Casey, daughter of Spencer Casey. This researcher has not yet pursued that avenue deeply, but has not seen any evidence to lead one to surmise Dempsey.

Spencer Casey was born c1770 in Spartanburg, SC; Eleanor gave her place of birth as SC in 1860 Census. Spencer Casey was living in Botetourt County, VA 1810 Census, and later in Lexington, Rockbridge County as late as 1850. He had a son named Hiram who married 1 Nov 1821 in Botetourt County, VA to Elizabeth Goode. Eleanor named one of her children Hiram.
