Eleanor's date of birth was a Monday and she was born at 4:12AM. The family address at the time was Race Street, Pottsville, PA. Born in a blizzard - when she came out with her face black & swollen the doctor said "Well, John, looks like all the good Scots stock has run out." Some stories told by Eleanor - grandmother Anna SHISSLER - Adelaide and Eleanor would go visit - did not like Eleanor - wore mother hubbard with big pockets & gave candy to the other kids but not Eleanor - asked mother when she got older why Anna did not like her - Eleanor's father's father lived with the BECKs and Eleanor was the baby and the grandfather pampered Eleanor & Anna did not like to see a kid spoiled and decided not to spoil Eleanor. When Eleanor was 16 or so they went to visit Anna & Anna said she liked Eleanor now. 1900 census-Elanor K is 2 mos 1910 census-Ellenor C is 10 In 1911 there was a letter to Eleanor from John Eastman, a minister in PA asking her to ask "Aurelia Neville to pull your ears 12 times, one to grow on. I think of you often & wonder how big you are now." 1920 census-Eleanor C is 19 and a typist in a lawyer's office 1930 census-shows Eleanor to be 30, married at age 23 Mrs. Robert BAINS planned to entertain a group of 8 at a bridge lunch at a popular suburban tea room the other day. She gave explicit directions concerning the menu and the manner in which she wanted the table decorated. Appearing with her group of 8 on time she found a party of 8 all ready at her table and about half way through the menu. Inquiry showed that another reservation for 8 was made by a man named BAINS who had simply asked that a nice luncheon be prepared. Mr. BAINS arrived first and the party received the special treatment. This took place at Olney Inn - the Mr. BAINS was not husband Robert but the Inn did scramble and made good for the bridge party. 1936-At Point No Point Margy PALMER, Jimmy PALMER, Margaretta BAINS and Bobby BAINS - Margy age 12 - playing horseshoes - Margy threw wild & hit Eleanor in the head. She was in the hospital for a long time. Margy prayed and was scared. Eleanor couldn't walk and had trouble with balance for a while. Bobby, Eleanor's son, says Margy was 15 when this incident occurred. 1940 census-Eleanor C; 40; school H-4; PA Eleanor is a life-long Methodist and resides at Asbury Methodist home in Gaithersburg, MD. Eleanor died at 2:40 PM on 9 NOV 1998. Services in her memory were held at the Woodside Church at 11 AM on 14 NOV 1998. References
