Business executive. Son of E.H. Stuart, founder of Carnation Dairy. He joined Carnation in 1911. Became Vice President in 1916; a director in 1918 and Executive Vice President in 1926. Was President of General Milk Company (Carnation's European division) from 1930-1965. He was President of Carnation from 1932-1957 and a Chairman of the Board from 1957-1971. In 1955, by decree of the President of France, he was named a Chevalier in the National Order of the Legion of Honor, which honor was attributed to "the useful contribution you have brought to the development of the French milk industry, and for the generosity you have shown towards French victims of the Second World War". A collector of Napoleonic material (the collection having now been given to Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where it is housed in the Elbridge Hadley Stuart Wing of the Penrose Memorial Library),the white enamel five pointed star was especially meaningful because the Legion of Honor it represented had been created by Napoleon in 1802 to recognize outstanding service rendered in any field of human activity.
