Edwin Tayek

Edwin A. Tayek, son of Joseph and Katherine (Moses) Tayek, was born August 2, 1908, in Giard Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He died Thursday, April 6, 1995, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. He was 86 years old.

Ed was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona and was a lifetime member. He recieved his education in the Cooper Valley Country School.

On August 12, 1938, Edwin was united in marriage to Lillian Houg at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor. Lillian died in 1971. Edwin married Alice O'Neill on March 18, 1978, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Waukon.

Edwin was active in farming. He loved nature and enjoyed pheasant hunting with his boys. He never missed a season in 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lillian, and a brother, Vernon. Survivors include his wife Alice; three sons, Jerry Tayek and wife Fara Wayne of Monona, Robert Tayek of McGregor and Jim Tayek and wife Janet of McGregor; one daughter, Joyce and husband Robert Saacke of Farmersburg; four grandchildren, Joseph Tayek, Jason Tayek, Chris Saacke and Michael McNally; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Samuel Tayek; three step-daughters, Marie White of Rensselaer, Ind., Kate Curtin of Waukon and Meg Shepherd of Waterville; three step-sons, Ed O'Neil of Vinton, Frank O'Neil and Tom O'Neil, both of Waukon; 19 step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 10, 1995, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona. Father John Moran officiated. Music was provided by the organist, Mrs. Barbara Ruff, and St. Patrick's Church Choir. Pallbearers were Gilbert Wiethorn, Loren Plozel, Arlen Nuehring, Kevin Neuhring, Roger Lestina, Wayne Lestina, Tim Amberg and Mike White. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
