Edward Peter Schad by Melvin Schad Edward Schad was born on April 8, 1890 in Saganaw, Michigan. His parents were Danial Debbie Schad. In 1906 the Family came west to Froid, Montana, here they took up a homestead. In 1907 Ed returned to Michigan, rented some land and tried his hand at growing white beans. Ed then returned to Froid to farm with his father until 1911 at which time he came farther north to the Radville area to take a homestead of his own near brooking. Ed farmed in this area from 1912 until 1916. He also operated a steam threshing outfit at harvest time. In 1916 Ed returned to the United States for military service until1918. After his time in the army Ed operasted a farm and horse ranch in Montana. The spring of 1923 saw Ed back in the Maxim area farming the Volen farm about four miles east of Maxim. He also rented the Smith farm about four miles south of Maxim from 1924 until 1929. During this time his father, mother, and brother Charlie came up from Froid, Montana to live with him on the Smith farm. Ed also operated a steam threshing outfit from 1926 to 1929. In the fall of 1926 Edward Schad and Agnes McDowell of the Tribune area were married. they lived the next four or five years on the Smith farm, then purchased the Pierce farm about five miles west of Maxim. During this time Charlie went farming on his own. He operated a farm in the Colgate area from 1929 to 1933, then went back to Warm Springs, Montana. After Ed bought this farm west of Maxim, his Dad and Mother, Danial and Debbie Schad moved their house to this farm and remained there until Danial's death in 1940. In 1937 Ed moved to the Appolo School District where he operated a mixed farm farming operation until his death in 1948. His mother Debbie stayed with the Schad family until this time, then went to live with her daughter Emma Baker in Bonners Ferry, Idaho until her passing in 1957, at the age of 93 years. Edward and Agnes raised a family of six children. They are: Melvin born in 1928 farms at Lake Alma. Evelyn born in 1930 lives in British Columbia. Louie born in 1932 deceased. Danial born in 1935 lives in British Columbia. Charlie born in 1942 lives in Lake Alma. Dorothy born in 1940 lives in B.C. Agnes stayed on the farm until 1952, then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she resides today in good health at the age of 77 years."
