Obituary.
MR. EDWARD DRURY.
The grim reaper has removed from our midst another very old and much esteemed Manning resident in the person of Mr. Edward Drury, of Central Lansdowne, who passed peacefully away at his residence on Sunday evening last.
The late Mr. Drury, who had reached the ripe old age of 74 years and 7 months, was taken ill on the previous Sunday, and though everything possible was done to relieve him, he gradually sank and passed away as stated. He was a native of Singleton and had resided on the Manning for 55 years, first at Ghinni and then at the Lansdowne, where he spent his last 15 years. Fifty-one years ago he was united in matrimony with Miss Unicomb, and on October 29th, 1912, the grand old couple celebrated their golden wedding at a picnic at Sandy Point, Lansdowne River, where, in addition to 70 immediate relatives, a large number of friends were present to congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Drury on celebrating the 50th anniversary of their wedding. Deceased was a staunch adherent of the Salvation Army, and his noble deeds and his uprighteousness throughout life won him the respect of the whole community. He brought up a large family, all of whom are esteemed throughout the district. A widow, one daughter and nine sons remain to mourn their loss. The daughter is Mrs. D. McAlpine (Central Lansdowne), and the sons are Messrs. Chas. E. (Glenthorne), Nathaniel (Oxley Island), Jonas and Edward (Ghinni), William and Stanley (Upper Lansdowne), Andrew, Alfred and Harold (Central Lansdowne). One son (George) predeceased his father by about 14 years. There are 48 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The funeral was to have taken place yesterday (Tuesday) at the Dawson Cemetery, where Ensign Hoepper was to conduct the burial ceremony — Mr. E. Munn being the undertaker.
