Jointly and severally firmly by those presents sealed with our seals and dated this 24th day of March, 1798. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended between the above bound Edward Boicourt and Betsy Sadler... for which a license has issued new if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then this obligation to be void or or also to remain in full force. Edward Boicourt Obediah Stayton March 24th 1798 This is to inform you that we have given our consent for our daughter Betsy to marry Edward Boicourt by your hand. Sam'l and Betsy Lewellen Note: Edward and his brothers, Samuel and Silas came west about the same time by way of the Ohio River. Edward and Betsy lived in Kentucky and Clark Co., IN before moving to Chandlerville, IL, sometime after 1830.
