Dorothy Gwendoline Richardson was born on 28th December 1901 in the Atherstone district, which is mostly in Warwickshire but partly in Leicestershire. In 1928 she married in the Barnet area to Douglas James Rice. They appear to have had at least one son in the Barnet area.

Dorothy died in Bristol in June 1990, aged 88. Douglas died there the following month.
