Dorothy was the third child born to Kathleen Pearce and Marshall Kennedy. She resembled her father in her coloring and was all her life one who lived life to the fullest. She loved to roller skate as a young girl and remembers the Christmas she got her first pair. She opened them, put them on and went out for an hour to try them out. When she came back she asked "What else did Santa bring"? She wasn't much interested in school work so her grades didn't measure up to her siblings grades. She once slid down the fire escape slide to avoid some reprimand at school. She climbed into the bell tower at St. Mary's Catholic Church near her home. She often remarked that her mother went after her over railroad tracks and was forever trying to tame this "wild child". She told Dorothy that the worst thing she could wish for her was to "have a child just like her." She was an excellent seamstress, making all her own clothes. As a teen Dorothy was always inthe company of a group where she met Andrew. He drove a paper route and even after being forbidden to see him she would slip out her bedroom window and go with him. They were married on one of these trips. Dorothy worked plucking chickens and breaking eggs at one of the poultry houses in the area. She and Andrew were married in the midst of the depression and jobs were hard to come by. She finally landed a job with Montgomery Ward after Barbara was about 2 years old. She worked there until both she and Andrew went to work for North American in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1942. Shortly after the birth of Andrew III, the family moved back to Ft. Worth and she went to work at Convair. In 1961 she, Andrew and Andrew III moved to San Jose, CA working at various places ending up at Stanford Hospital from where she retired at age 70. In 1989 she moved to Cameron park, CA and in 1999 she moved to Citrus Heights, CA to Crosswoods Oaks Retirement Center. She had three strokes the last year of her life and died at age 90 as a result of a misdiagnosed intestinal leakage. Dorothy remained a generous person to the end of her life, fun to be around, always happy and one who loved life.
