    Doris A. Stout, age 90, of rural West Chester, Iowa, died Friday, November 04, 2016, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.

    Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10th, at the West Chester United Methodist Church with Rev. Moody Colorado officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. General calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 9th from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the West Chester United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.     Doris Alice Stout was born May 18, 1926, in Albia, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis Cass and Sadie Alice (Coulson) Rouse. She graduated from Moravia High School in 1943 and received a teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College in 1949. Doris was united in marriage to Robert Lewis Stout on August 5, 1951, in Albia, Iowa.

    Doris taught at Lincoln Elementary School in Washington, but began her teaching career in many country schools. She was a member of the West Chester United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women. Doris volunteered with the American Cancer Society and with Hospice of Washington County. She enjoyed gardening and loved her farm, but her greatest joy in life was her family.

    She is survived by her son, Kent Stout and wife Michelle of Westborough, MA; son, Rob Stout and wife Jean of Washington, IA; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Carlson and husband Luke of Palmyra, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2015; sister, Verna Violet Rouse; and brother, Alvin Lewis Rouse.
