    Donald, 79, of Houghton Lake passed away Tuesday at St, Mary's of Saginaw with his family by his side.
    Don was born to Ray and Ople (Smith) Mainprize. Don was married in Houghton Lake on July 27, 1952 to Doris Humphrey, and she survives.
    He was a teacher at Houghton Lake Community Schools for 30 years, retiring 17 years ago and he also instructed at area Junior Colleges. He was an Honorary Fellow at Central Michigan University, received his Divinity Doctorate at Destiny Christian University in Detroit, received a Bachelor's Degree from Oklahoma University, and a Master's Degree from Central Michigan University. Don was an author of nine books and noticed as an author in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World, he also was a minister for Living Waters Ministries.

    Don was a loving husband, father, grandpa, teacher and friend to many. His life was committed to serving God, his wife and family, and his community. His greatest enjoyments were teaching English and Creative Writing to all and spending time writing and publishing his own books and poetry.
    Sadly missed by those who had the privilege to know Don, he was a shining example of how to enjoy the Christian Life and serve God and others.

    Surviving Mr. Mainprize are his loving wife of 58 years, Doris Mainprize of Houghton Lake; two sons, Dan (Michelle) Mainprize of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Edward (Karen) Mainprize of Oklahoma; two daughters, Debra (Charles) Blackney of Houghton Lake, and Susan Mainprize of Houghton Lake; fourteen grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one brother, James Mainprize of Houghton Lake; two sisters, Lola (Bob) Bowman of Houghton Lake and Laura Anderson of Lake Odessa; and several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.

    Funeral services for Mr. Donald C. Mainprize were conducted Saturday August 7, 2010 at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Rev. Robert Russell officiating.
