DONALD EDWARD HAWKINS (1948-2003) The following obit for Donald appeared in the 12-1-2003 Winchester Star:

Donald E. “Donnie” Hawkins, 55, of Ranson, W.Va., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.

Mr. Hawkins was born Jan. 16, 1948, in Winchester, the son of Donald Hawkins and Ethel O. Holt Hawkins.

He had been a horse trainer and jockey’s valet at Charles Town Race Track for many years. He attended Charles Town Baptist Church. He was a member of AA.

Surviving with his mother, of Ranson, are, a son, Donald E. Hawkins Jr. of Charles Town, W.Va., two brothers, John D. Hawkins of Charles Town and Henry A. Hawkins of Ranson; and a granddaughter.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Charles Town Baptist Church, with Dr. Wyman Hall officiating. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to AA in care of Grand Central Station, Box 459, New York, N.Y., 10163. Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, is handling arrangements.
