99636 - David Wilson, born 30 January 1774, probably in Virginia (1850 census). In the 1880 census, his son Hugh says that David was born in Ireland, which perhaps indicates "Irish descent." Its more likely that David's father was born in Ireland. David married Jane Weir (Wear) in Greene County, TN on 16 October 1796. There are other Greene County records that mention David Wilson, Sr and David Wilson, Jr. David was likely born in Augusta County, VA (speculation). Early land purchases in Borden's grant show three parcels of land owned by William Wilson, James Wilson and John Wilson (2). David was Presbyterian, being an Elder in the Mars Hill Presbyterian Church at Athens, TN. Jane died in Meigs County, Tennessee, September 1846. David died in Meigs County in December 1851. They are buried in Beech Springs Cemetery near Cleveland.
David and Jane are also documented in Blount County, Tennessee, perhapos due to county boundary shifts. Around 1823, they relocated to McMinn County. They had nine children: John W. Wilson (1797-1859); Hugh Preston Wilson (1799-1891); Alexander Harvey Wilson (1801-1876); Anny Wilson (1804 - unknown); Nancy Wilson Grigsby (1806-1841); Mary A. Wilson (1808-unknown); David B. Wilson (1810-1849); Jane W. Wilson (1813-unknown); and George M. Wilson (1815-1868). Dates of birth are recorded in the family Bible of George M. Wilson in the possession of one of his descendants in Chattanooga, TN.

Notes

From Rootsweb Message Board:

My oldest documented ancestor, David Wilson (1774-1851), lived in Greene County. I think the David Wilson in the tax list may be his father, but I have no documentation. There are two court records in Greene County that mention David Wilson, Sr. and his son David Wilson, Jr. In the second record, David Sr. paid a fine for son David Jr for fathering a child out of wedlock by a woman named Polly Thorn. My ancestor, married Jane Wear later that same year (1796).
