Obituary of David Argyll MorrisS3

Bro. David Morris, (June 2, 1819 – October 30, 1895), aged 76, died from heart failure in the town of Sulphur. He had been a leading member of the Southern Baptist Church since its organization, being one of its constituent members. This brother was born in Woodford County, KY and came to Henry County when he was 16 years old. He learned the blacksmith trade with his uncle, Arguile Bomer, noted as the inventor of the celebrated Bomer plow. He made a profession of religion and joined the New Castle Baptist Church in one of Rev. T. J. Fisher's noted meetings. He was married to Amanda M. Watkins in 1843. The two lived together happily for 58 years. His widow still lives in Sulphur, being loved and cared for by her sons and daughters, all of whom are of exceptional character. Bro. Morris held membership in the Sligo Baptist Church for many years. He moved his membership to the Hillsboro Baptist Church in 1855 or 56, where he remained until 1881 or 82, joining the Sulphur Church as a colony of the Hillsboro Church. Brother and Sister Morris had born unto them eleven children, nine still living, one died when quite young and the other, B. F. Morris, married and then died.

The funeral services were conducted by Bro. Theobard, assisted by Bro. W. W. Foree, in the Baptist meeting house in Sulphur, after which his remains were buried in the Morris family graveyard.
