It seems surprising that David would have been born in "New Philadelphia". As far as this compiler and his associates knew, the Karns family lived near Stone Creek, in Jefferson Township. Also questionable is his date of birth. Documents say 1838, but his tombstone says 1836.

David was known as a: "lover of outdoors, and outdoor sports". He was a farmer & carpenter. He migrated to Indiana in 1865. He lived in Pleasant Township, Wabash County, Indiana.

The Laketon Cemetery is a short distance to the northwest of Urbana, Indiana; where his first wife, Abaline Pershing is buried.
