He was born in Cranfills Gap. He lived in the Lorenzo and Plainview areas before moving to Lubbock in 1940. He was a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army as a messenger with the 88th Blue Devil Division in Italy in World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He was a charter member of Monterey Church of Christ. He served as a trustee at the inception of the Monterey congregation. He also served as a deacon and as an elder. Survivors include his wife, Verna Ray; a son, Keith of Forth Worth; two daughters, Dixie Williams of Lubbock and Diane Wilkerson of Fort Worth; two sisters, Alga Sewell of Plainview and Minnie Northcutt of Abernathy and James and Paul, both of Lubbock; and five grandchildren.
