David D. Dugger was born ca 1815/16 in Carter Co, TN. He is a proven son of William Dugger (1750-1839) and his 3rd wife Nancy Ann Brown. David Dugger obtained a marriage bond in Carter Co, TN on 9 Feb 1835 to marry Mary Heaton (listed as "Polly Heaton"). David D. Dugger was named in his father William Dugger's Will of 10 Apr 1839 as "William, David and Tarlton, my three sons." I didn't find David D. Dugger listed on the 1840 census. His brother Benjamin Tarlton Dugger had an extra male with him the right age, but I don't know if that was him, considering he (David) was married at this time. I don't know where they were. Mary "Polly" Heaton died sometime before 1844, for on 7 Jul 1844 David Dugger obtained a marriage bond in neighboring Johnson Co, TN to marry Elizabeth Bunting (listed as "Bunton"). On the 1850 census, David D. Dugger and family were listed in Carter Co, TN just a few houses from his mother and brothers Benjamin Tarlton Dugger, William C. Dugger and Thomas Dugger, and his 1st cousin Margaret Dugger, daughter of Julius Dugger (1760). His oldest child was 8 years old, or born ca 1841/42, so it seems his 1st wife was still living at least ca 1842.
David's brother William C. Dugger, applied for a Pension on behalf of himself and his siblings, as heirs of Revolutionary War soldier William Dugger, their father. Filed 9 Jun 1853 (# R 3109), he named the surviving heirs of William, and included David as "David., age 39", which in 1853, puts his birth at circa 1813/1814, which is in close agreement with other sources. David was still in Carter Co, TN for the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census.
