Green. 10 March 1747/9. William Howell & John Chistern markers. Capt. Thomas Ashby pilot.
- "On the above survey is 6 Settlements Viz: Wm. Owins late of Westmoreland Co. bought of Samuel Wilson Hunter lately a Resident. Darby McCarty late of Bucks Co. in Pens'a [Pennsylvania] produced a Certificate of his Good Behaviour, Healse __?__ another improvement which he bought of Joseph Richardson lying below Owins, George Neal late of Shannandoah but first from Pensilv'a, the other two settlements but I am informed are deserted, being little or no other than a small cabin built by Thornton. [Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1694-1742, Vol. 1, Gertrude E. Gray, pg. 147].
- Poll List of Frederick County, containing the names of those who voted for George Washington when a candidate for the House of Burgesses, taken July 24, 1758," the name of Darby McCarty is listed.(16) He also appears in the land records. By deed dated December 20, 1754, Lord Fairfax conveyed "400 acres of land on a branch of the North River of Shenandoah called Passage Creek," in Frederick County, to "Darby Macarthy" (Land Records, Book H, p. 590)
- Land Grant dated December 17, 1771, by which Lord Fairfax conveyed to Darby McCarty a tract of 253 acres in the same vicinity, and the deed recited that the grant was made "as by survey thereof dated June the First, 1757, made for the said Darby McCarty by George Hume and forfeited by Virtue of an Advertisement issued from my office and recorded there in Book N, but on application of said Darby McCarty I have allowed a Deed to issue to him for said Land.(Land Records, Book P, p. 91)
