Daniel Greene died November 24, 1797.
The home of Daniel Greene is thus described by Henry Rousmainére: "So halting had been the march of enterprise that but three houses had been erected at Centreville from 1695 to 1775. In one of them, a long, low structure, lived Daniel, son of [Major] Job Greene. Its situation was very near the dwelling-place of Elder Jonathan Brayton. Daniel, like all his father's family, was a violent 'liberty man'. When the English government laid a tax on windows he proudly resolved to foil the scheme; he removed all the glass lights from his house and substituted coarse wooden shutters.
"He died November 24, 1798-9, about one hundred years old. Had he survived thirteen months more he would have flourished in three centuries" (Providence Journal, May 31, 1859, "Letters from the Pawtuxet").
Major Job Greene, father of Daniel, transferred to him, in 1726, over 400 acres of land on the east side of the Pawtuxet. Upon this estate Daniel lived for many years, bequeathing it to his grandnephew, Christopher Greene, son of the gallant Colonel Christopher of the Revolutionary army (see No. 670).

DIED At Warwick, Mr. Daniel Green, aged 99.
- ↑ Arnold clearly gives Daniel's death as a toddler on 12 Feb 1700/01, but Greenes of Rhode Island gives an 1859 account of Daniel Greene, son of Job, living to around 100 years old. It also gives a land transfer from Job to Daniel in 1726. Rhode Island Genealogical Research Institute then gives Daniel, eldest son of Job, in Job's will from 1744.
While Arnold gives 12 Feb 1700 as Daniel's death date, Greenes of Rhode Island, p. 75, gives 12 Feb 1700 as the birth date of Daniel's brother, Richard. Where Arnold gives 29 Mar 1701 as Richard's birth date, Greenes of Rhode Island gives 29 Mar 1700 as Richard's death date. Perhaps Arnold's transcription was misaligned.
