MISCELLANEOUS_NOTES: Joined the Royal Navy when under-age. After basic training he became a signalman. He became part of the crew (80 officers and ratings) on HMS "Pheasant", an 'M Class destroyer operating with the Grand Fleet. On 1st March, 1917 on leaving the roadsteads at Scapa Flow in the Orkneys, the "Pheasant" struck a mine and was sunk with the loss of all hands. [Official Admiralty Notification dated 3/3/1917] Note that his notification gives his age as 21 years - in fact, he had not reached his nineteenth birthday. Signalman J/25441 Cyril Spencer Rogers' name appears on the Plymouth Memorial, Devon, England along with so many others who have no known graves (CWGC).
