Count Louis DeMoss, a Huguenot, of a noble and wealthy Protestant family, fled from Paris, France to Holland in October, 1685, following the proclamation of the Edict of Nantes in France, during the period of the heavy persecution of the Huguenots, for sanctuary of his family. Son of Nicholas Francois Demoss I and Maria Theresa Tierceline. He d. abt 1695 in the Netherlands. He wed Catherine Perni. He had sons Louis, Charles, John, William and possibly other children. His son, Louis II came to America about 1700.

    COUNT LOUIS DEMOSS (LOIS DUMAS) was b. 1669 in de Montaigne, France, son of Nicholas francois DaMas I and Maria Theresa Tiercelin. He d. unkn date in the Netherlands. He was a Huguenot, fled from France in October 1685 and settled in Holland. It is unkn who he wed. He had sons Louis and Charles, and possibly other children. His son, Louis II came to America about 1700. The children of Count Louis DeMoss, possibly among others are:

Charles DeMoss was killed by Indians, being unable to escape because of injuries received before he came over. One tradition says that Charles died unmarried; another has it that he left a family of small children. Louis is said to have married the daughter of a Virginia planter and raised a large family; among them were LOUIS (Loie Dumas, Will of 1743);
