Though many things on my side of the family are quite uncertain, I being one of the few direct descendants, know more than the average historian on the subject of the Demoss Family. They were promanant French Huguenots, Devout protestants. Fleeing persecution from Catholic France, they fled to the netherlands, they were separate from Calvinist because they believed in the infilling of the holy-spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, my Demoss ancestors many of which had the gifts themselves, Were completely unwavering on their faith. My Great Grandmother used to tell us before she passed away, that Count Louis II Demoss, through his bloodline would produce,( many) prophets of God, One prophecy stating, that years later, in one of the colonies , there would be born a man, named after a prophet of old, and he was to be born on the seventh day of the month. He would bring about a great revival in the nation, of the colonies known now as the United States, The prophecy was that the nation would be backslidden, and that in time men and women both would be given up to the sins of their flesh, living in complete debotchery, and the influence of lucifer and sin would be great in the nation, and that this young man from his line of the demoss would bring about a revival and restoration of holiness to the colonies, and to what would later be known as the united states of america, that he would be filled with the Holy Spirit, and work wondrously in the gifts God gave him. my great-grandmother passed away about 10 years ago, and ever sense I haven't been able to locate the document stating this prophesy, But I do have many of them in my possession, dating back to the seventeenth century, He prophesied about the American revolution which made him somewhat reluctant to come to the colonies, The Demoss Counts were men of great influence in their circle, most everyone gave an ear when they spoke, and took them quite seriosly due to the accuracy of their prophesies. Louis II when speaking in the prophetic, he was completely accurate on both dates and occurrences. Another prophesy about this same revival, says it is going to happen in the twentyfirst century, so I know one of my relatives are out their going after God, and receiving what it is he has for him.

"Just when Louis came to America has not been determined. He was a Huguenot. Louis and Catherine settled on Deer Creek which enters present day Harford County at its northwest corner, meanders southeast about 5 to 10 miles and then runs east across the county until it empties into the Susquehanna River. Their land was on the south side of Deer Creek at the conjunctions of Stout Bottle Branch, or Bottle Stout Branch, depending upon which deed you read. He called it Frenchman's repose.
"In August 1719, Louis was fined for refusing to repair his road. This was in Baltimore County, Maryland. A tract of land called Frenchman's Repose was granted to Lewis in 1717."

    Louis DeMoss Sex: M
Birth: ABT 1688 in Baltimore County, MD
Death: ABT 1744 in Orange County, VA
"Louis Demoss may have come to Old Baltimore Co., (now Harford Co., since about 1744) , MD. as early as 1700; but the first known of him definitely there is in 1715, when his oldest son Lewis was baptized (Parish Records). His Will was dated June 17, 1743. Final Probate of Will was in 1752 by Thomas Cresap, son Charles being then of age 21. His Will mentions 9 children, omitting Ping (or Price) of the Parish Records. The Parish Records mention 8 children, omitting Catherine and Jane, who were mentioned in the Will of 1743. The Will of Lewis Demos of Oppenkon, Co. of Orange, Colony of VA. shows: Catherine and husband James Crabtree, Lewis, John, Peter, Jane, William, Thomas, James and Charles. His wife Catherine Demos and son John Demos are sole Executors."
"Louis DeMoss II (Jr., Junr., etc., in land Records), spelled his name "Loie Dumas" when signing his name to his Will in which he spelled the name of his children 'Demos.'
"He may have come to Old Baltimore Co., (now Harford Co., since about 1744), MD., as early as 1700; but the first known of him definitely there is in 1715, when his oldest son, LEWIS was born or baptized (Parish Records). Harford Co., is on the north line of MD., just west of the Susquehanna River, with the Susquehanna River the only barrier. This is immediately south of York Co., PA., and corners with Lancaster Co., PA., Harford Co., was set out of old Baltimore Co., about 1744. (1773)
"He was born probably in Holland; married Catherine; died about 1744, Berkeley Co., VA., (now West VA.); Will dated June 17, 1743. In 1752, Final Probate of Will by Thos. Cresap. Burial place unknown; though much search has been made for it. J. W. Baker, Clerk of Frederick Co., Circuit Court, W.VA., says Loie Dumas (Louis Demoss) is not buried in Opequon Presbyterian Cemetery. Most of those old graves in the vicinity where he died have no grave stones nor markers. Stones had to be imported from Alexandria, and were not brought into Frederick Co., until 1800. If any were placed at those old graves, they may have crumbled. Too, all of this land was overrun by soldiers during the Revolutionary War, and these soldiers were often needing to remove gravestones for other uses. Or, Louis may have been buried on privately owned grounds and the place forgotten, as was very often done in those days.
"Mr. Samuel DeMoss, of Seattle, Wash., corresponded with someone who thinks Louis (Will 1743) attended Hopewell Friends Chapel, but is probably buried at Arden, and Quakers in those times did not use gravestones or markers.
"On Sept. 28, 1717, Lewis Demoss received the Grant of 'Frenchman's Repose', consisting of 250 acres on Drafts or Deer Creek on the South Side, 'beginning at 4 bounded white oaks', etc.--Vol. II, A, pge. 326, Land Office. In 1735, after he had moved from old Baltimore Co., he sold to Wm. Grafton, 69 acres of Frenchman's Repose.
"On Jan., 22, 1736, when he sold a dark bay gelding, he was living in Orange Co., in Opecan, at mouth of Mill Creek, where he and his sons build a mill, and where he died. He was among the Huguenot settlers with the Pennsylvania Germans, Quakers, and a few Scotch-Irish, who made early settlements in the Shenandoah Valley, and located on the Opequon.
