From the proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1660-1661, "Whereas Cornelius Comages late of New Amstell and Subject of the State of Holland haueing of longtyme liued within this our Province of Maryland hath besought us to grante him the said Cornelius Comages leaue here to Inhabite and as a free Dennizen freedome land to him and his heires..."

The following naturalization petition was accept: "Your peticoner Cornelius Comegys the Elder borne in Lexmont belonging to the State of Holland, your peticoner Millementy Comegys in Barnevelt under the Dominion of the said states, your peticoner Cornelius Comegys the younger borne in Virginia & your peticoners Elizabeth, William & Hannah borne within this province ... shall and may from hence forth be adjudged reputed & taken as natureall borne people within this Prouince of Maryland..."

Cornelius Comegys came to New Amsterdam from Lexmont in Holand and owned a house and lot "about Stuyversant's Bowry."

The conclusion that Cornelius had three wives is deduced from the report of the Labadist who visited Maryland in 1679 and said that Cornelius had and English wife. Cornelius's first wife, Willimentze, is known to be from Holland and was last known to be alive in 1676. Rebecca, his last wife, couldn't have been married Cornelius before Feb 1687/88 which is when her previous husband died. Therefore, there must have been a wife in 1679 who was English. This wife's name is given in the Kent County Land Records as Mary. The land record, Liber B folio 49, 28 Sep 1680, show Cornelius Comegys and his wife Mary, along with Nathaniel Everett and his wife Ellin transferring land.

Cornelius transfered part of tract Utrick to his daughter Elizabeth Frye. Cornelius reserved the right to setup, build and finish ships or vessels on that part of the point of land now called Shipyard and the house in said yard to be for the use of Cornelius for building and finishing one more vessel after the vessel now building on the stocks.
