Clem Stienecker taught 42 years in elementary school, several years in 1 room, 8 grade schools; retired before 3 grandchildren entered 6th grade, Patty, Scott and Mike. There were 10 students who graduated from N.K. in 1918 with him: 1 became a preacher, 1 a farmer, 1 a mechanic, 7 are teachers; he and 3 others took turns driving horse and buggy to St. Marys for their 4th year of high school. He painted in summers; helped to paint the outside woodwork of the U.C.C. Church, helped to paint the highest windows; taught his students baseball at recess; taught Sunday School at the Methodist Church for years. He was born, baptized and confirmed at the U.C.C. Church. When he and Olga were married he joined the Methodist Church.

Retired Knoxville village clerk dies by Diana Martin, EL Staff Writer NEW KNOXVILLE - Clement "Clem" R. Stienecker, Village Clerk of New Knoxville for many years, died early this morning.

Stienecker, 84, of 202 W. German St., New Knoxvile, died at 3 a.m. today at his home following an extended illness.

Stienecker was responsible for naming the streets of New Knoxville when he served as village clerk for a number of years.

He was an elementary school teacher and had taught in several one-room school houses at the beginning of his career. From 1938 until his retirement in 1962 he taught in the new Knoxville school system. During the summers he operated a painting business.

Stienecker was an active member of the United Methodist Church in New Knoxville where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He also had served as church secretary and treasurer.

An active outdoorsman, Stienecker was the last charter member of the New Knoxville Rod and gun Club and had beena past club secretary. He was a member of the Auglaize County Retired Teachers Association. A graduate of Wapakoneta High School, he attended Bowling Green State University and was graduated from Ohio Northern University in Ada.

Born May 20, 1901, in New Knoxville, he was the son of August and Anna (Schroer) Stienecker. He married Olga M. Katterheinrich on April 29, 1928 and she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Don C. Stienecker, and a daughter, Shirley A. Meyer, both of New Knoxville; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Gertrude Wright of Sun City, Fla., Lydia Henschen of St. Marys, and Mary Hoge of Sidney.

He was preceded in death by a son, James L.; three brothers, Albin, Edwin and Rueben; and two sisters, Ona Katterheinrich and Anna Stienecker.

The Rev. James Waugh of the United Methodist Church, New Knoxville, will officiate at memorial services at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Private graveside rites will be held at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville. The body has been cremated.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday at the United Methodist Church. Gilberg Funeral Home in New Bremen is handling the arrangements.

The family requests that contributions in Mr. Stienecker's memory be made to the United Methodist Church in New Knoxville
