On 24 Jul 1848 he appointed Peleg, his son, to be guardian over Clarke Saunders, Jr., who was thrown out of a wagon and hit his head on a rock - he was never "normal" after that incident. The three daughters, Mary, Hannah, and Sarah, never married.

    In Westerly, March 18th, 1864, Capt. Clark Saunders, aged 88 years, 1 month and 23 days. Bro. Saunders was born in Westerly, January 24, 1776. He made a public profession of his faith in Christ in June, 1798, at which time he united with the First Seventh-day Baptist Church of Hopkinton, and at the time of his death had been a worthy member of that church for a period of nearly 66 years. He was a modest and faithful man in all the relations of life, and in ripe old age has gone to a peaceful rest, trusting in Jesus Christ for a glorious immortality.
