Clarence Wenck was a resident of Carroll, Carroll County, IA
CLARENCE WENCK
Clarence John Wenck, who managed the Iowa State Liquor Store in Carroll for 15 years, died at his home in Carroll Saturday, May 9, 1992, following a long illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Charles Haake officiating. Burial will be at the Carroll City Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today (Monday) at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 tonight.
Honorary casket bearers will be Paul Snyder, Edward Murphy, Jack Grimsman, Ray Middendorf, Dennis Janning and Jack Dryden. Casket bearers will be Rodney Onken, Ray Lenz, Dean Heuton, John Wenck, Albert Wenck and Ronald Wenck.
Born May 23, 1917, in Carroll, Mr. Wenck was a son of John and Caroline (Koppelman) Wenck. He attended rural school in Sheridan Township and received his GED from Carroll High School at the age of 59.
He was baptized on Aug. 24, 1917, at the Methodist Church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 20, 1932, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale.
From 1937 to 1965, he farmed and worked as a carpenter. He managed the Iowa State Liquor Store in Carroll before retiring in 1982.
On June 2, 1937, he was married to Edna Boell at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll by Pastor Bleeke.
He had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale where he was Sunday school superintendent for many years before moving to Carroll and joining St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He served on the Lidderdale School Board and the Telephone Board of Lidderdale Cooperative.
Mr. Wenck is survived by his wife, Edna, of Carroll; two sons, Norman and his wife, Mollie, of Plymouth, Minn., and David and his wife, Joyce, of Hudson, Wis.; a daughter, Nancy Wilharm, and her friend Ronald Warnke of Waterloo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Lori and Lisette Wenck, Todd and Joshua Wenck, Brian and Allison Wenck, Troy and Lynne Wenck, Tracy Wilharm, and Travis and Kelly Wilharm; a brother, Louis Wenck, and his wife, Helen, of Carroll; and Two sisters, Helen Beckman and Mildred Helmkamp, both of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Helmkamp and Frank Beckman.
