Clarence J. Houser, 83, son of the first white family to settle in the Kittitas Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Tillman Houser, died in a Yakima Hospital at 9:15 p.m., Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. He was taken to the hospital from his home at 401 E. Sixth Avenue here earlier the same day.
Although he was born in Western Washington in the White River area, he came to Kittitas Valley when he was five months old and had lived here since. His family was the first to cross Snoqualmie Pass.
For many years he was a farmer and cattleman here. On February 22, 1903, he was married here to Elizabeth Bailes. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Ellensburg.
Houser is survived by his widow and a brother, Alvey Houser of Spokane; a sister, Mrs. Chester Churchill of Wenatchee and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services are to be announced by Honeycutt-Evenson Funeral Home.
