On this 11th day of May 1818 before the court of Caroline county in said state, now sitting, personally appeared Claiborne Durrett aged sixty one & upwards resident in said county who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval service of the united states in the revolutionary war.” that he the said C. Durrett enlisted under Capt. Hawes in the 2d Virg’a. Regim’t. commanded by Colo. William Woodford – that he continued 2 years in service of the United states when he was discharged at Valley Forge Pennsylv’a. by Colo. Hawes which discharge he has lost – that he was in the battles of Brandywine [11 Sep 1777] Germantown [4 Oct 1777] & on Mud island [Siege of Fort Mifflin [10 Oct - 15 Nov 1777], – that he is in reduced circumstances & stands in need of the assistance of his country for support.

On this eighth day of March 1819, before the County Court of Caroline for the said district, personally appeared Claibourn Durrett aged Sixty one year, resident in said County in the said district, who, being first duly sworn, according to law, doth, on his oath, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the provision made by the late act of Congress, entitled “An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war:” That he, the said Claibourn Durrett enlisted for the term of two years on the [blank] day of [blank] in the year [blank] in said County in the state of Virginia in the company commanded by Captain Samuel Hawes of the 2d Regiment commanded by Colonel Wm. Woodford in the line of the State of Virginia on the Continental establishment; that he continued to serve in the said corps, or in the service of the United States, two years, when he was discharged from service at Valley forge state of Pennsylvania, that he was in the battles of Brandywine & Germantown & Mud island and that he is in reduced circumstances, and stands in need of the assistance of his country for support; and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services.

On this fourteenth day of August 1820 personally appeared in open court, being a court of record, for the county aforesaid, Claiborne Durrett aged ab’t. sixty two years, resident in said county, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare, that he served in the Revolutionary War, as follows: under Colo. Hawes in the first Virginia Regiment – Gen’l. Spottswood [sic: Col. Alexander Spotswood] was in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown & Mud Island as Stated in the declaration of the 11th day of May 1818 on which declaration he has received a pension certificate.
And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident Citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled “an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War” passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the Schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed. Viz’t. a horse one cow and two
yearlings and eight head hogs – family self and wife – Miller by trade
