Christian Hoffarth (Hoffert, Huffard)

By the 4th of November, 1762 the Hoffarth family was established in Frederick County, Maryland, USA where Christian signed a 21 year lease on a small parcel of land, small enough that it was likely the "place to live" and not the land to farm. This land was owned by the English royal, Lord Baltimore, and managed by a governor appointed by him. He also had a long term lease on 193 acres in Frederick County. He lost the property the 10th of October, 1781, when it was sold to Major Davidson for 1,300 pounds. Davidson paid with army pay certificates which he had been granted as a soldier of the "Maryland line." there was no way Christian could compete. He was 66 when he lost the land.

Elizabeth probably died before 1764 in Frederick County, Maryland, USA after the birth of her last child in 1762. Christian then married Anna Catharine _____ and they had ten children. all born in Frederick County, Maryland, USA in this order: Anna Catharina, was born in 1764, George (Jorick) was born in 1766, Elizabeth was born in 1768; Adam was born in 1769; Hannah was born in 1771; Jacob was born in 1772; Susanna was born in 1774; Johanna Magdalena was born in 1776; Rebecca was born in 1778; and Barbara Hoffart was born in 1780. Christian died in 1788 in Frederick County, Maryland, USA. Anna Catharine died about October, 1807 in Fayette County, Kentucky, USA.

WAR RECORD: Estabilished as Revolutionary War "Patriot" by D.A.R.

“Under 15” when they arrived in America. Had 17 children, through his two wives. Land leased from Lord Baltimore. Lost his long-term lease when Revolutionary War ended. Sold out from under him. He had 2 year old child, and died within 6 years.

_KKN: Note: Christian Hoffarth (1716-1788) and Elizabeth Keim (1723-1764) were husband and wife for 18 years. It's not likely they were either's "first love" since he was about 29, and she was about 22 when they married. However, their 18-year marriag

_KKN: Note: Elizabeth's death date is presumed from the fact that she gave birth to a son in August 1762, and Christian's second wife gave birth to a daughter in 1764. Elizabeth vanished from the records.

_KKN: Note: For years, genealogists had presumed that all seventeen of Christian's children had the same mother. The Daughters of the American Revolution [DAR] continue to perpetuate that error. The initial clue to perceptive genealogists that the fir

_KKN: Note: the record noted both Christian and his second wife, Anna Catharine (last name KARFMAN, according to another researcher).

_KKN: Note: The definitive proof that Elizabeth and Christian were married is found is a quit claim deed on her late father's property. In it she is named as the wife of Christian Hoffart. Dated 29-Apr-1762, titled "Release John Kihm [Keim] to George

_KKN: Note: Kihm [Keim]." It is a quit-claim deed for the 200-acre plantation in Oley Township, Berks Co., PA, formerly owned by Elizabeth's father Johannes KEIM. The opening clause of the deed follows:

_KKN: Note: In addition to the ten acres Christian leased in November 1762, he had a long term lease on 193 acres. On 10-Oct-1781, that long-term lease was sold to one Maj. Davidson for 1,300 pounds. The major was able to pay with army pay certificate
