Christian was confirmed at Trinity (Sponagle) Lutheran Church, Berne Township, Fairfield County, Ohio on 15 April 1849.

Christian and Alice lived on the west edge of Pleasantville in a large, brick farm house. The house is standing today and is still one of the finest houses in the area. Christian farmed the land surrounding the house; which, considering the size of the house, was a very small parcel.
