Chipman and his brother John moved to Huron County about 1855. He lived with family on Lot 9 Cons 2, Howick Twp. The "SIGNAL", Goderich, Ontario carried the following notice 5 December 1862: "Chipman Jaques, Gorrie P. O. Howick, forewarns the public from trusting his wife Jane Jaques on his account as she has left his bed and board taking with her negotiable notes made out to him by William and Richard Odbert." The 1871 Census shows the spelling as "Jaques"
