Biography

From "Alleghany County Heritage Vol I p. 130", written by Arlynn L.R. King:

Charles King was born April 3, 1750, in Hanover County, Virginia, moving to Botetourt County, Va., in the early 1770's. He had lived there a short time when, in the summer of 1774, he volunteered and served three months in Captain Given's Company against the Indians in Greenbrier County, Virginia. Charles also served with the Virginia troops in 1775 and ending at the battle of Yorktown. Charles was pensioned as a Revolution Soldier June 18, 1833, while a resident of Alleghany County, formerly part of Botetourt County, Virginia.
Charles married Rebecca Bess, daughter of Christopher and Mary Bess, on August 21, 1787. They had only one son, John, born in 1788. Charles died March 18, 1836 and Rebecca lived to be over 87 years.

Notes

Some researchers have claimed that this Charles King had a second marriage to Nancy Ann Fox Napier, February 6, 1798 in Montgomery County, Virginia, but in the Revolutionary War Pension file, listed above, it appears that his wife Rebecca out-lived him. Probably a different Charles King that married Napier.
