Facts and Events
Refer to "Descendants of Charles Edwin Jones" for additional info on descendants (in Jones file) sent by Dennis Tierney. The following is from Bruce E. Jones, bkjones10@aol.com, July 8, 2009: His occupation in Maquon was with the Burlington Railroad and working at a grain elevator. When he came to Chicago I found three occupations from census info and my grandfather's BC. In 1906 he was a tunnel worker where he helped build the underground tunnels that delivered coal and other misc. merchandise into the basements of the downtown high rise buildings. These are the same tunnels that caused the Great Chicago Flood in the 1990s! He was also listed as a "Paper Hanger" (Wallpaper) and a "Storekeeper". My Dad remembers Charles running a grocery store on Chicago Avenue and Pulaski on the west side of Chicago and the family lived in the apartment above it. Rumor has it that he used his connections to family and friends in Maquon to get his produce cheap :-) Son Charles reportedly said that Charles Edwin was a stern disciplinarian who did not talk much.
