After Bob graduated from high school he went to work for Capitol Airlines at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland, Ohio. He loaded and unloaded baggage and freight on airplanes. He stayed there until he volunteered for the draft in 1955. He knew he was due to be drafted, so he beat them to the punch and volunteered to go before they called. He went through basic training at Fort Gordon, Georgia and then went through advanced training in tanks at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His initial post after training was at Fort Hood, Texas. Many of his fellow soldiers were sent to Germany. However, the Army had other plans for him. They sent him to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii with the 25th Division. In Hawaii he was a tank commander. The 25th Division was one of the Army's combat divisions. When trouble broke out in the Middle East in 1958 the Pentagon alerted the division for deployment. The final order to deploy never came. After his discharge, Bob stayed in California for a while. He then returned home to Cleveland and went to work for Emery Air Freight Corporation at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. He stayed there for several years. Bob left Emery for a business opportunity. That didn't work out, so he went to work at a hobby store. The owner opened a store in Columbia, Maryland and asked Bob to run it for him. They had a falling out and Bob left the store. He remained in Columbia for a while and then returned to Brunswick, Ohio where he lived with his father and his brother Larry's family. He returned to work for Emery at the airport again. He remained there for some time until he was transferred to Lexington, Kentucky. Bob stayed there until he left Emery and returned to Ohio. Bob went to work at Airborne Air Freight at the airport and worked there until he died of a heart attack at home. He wanted to write a novel. Bob used personages from the family genealogy to base some of his characters on. The story was set in medieval times. The part he completed remains with his family. Bob was also an artist. His family has a number of his paintings on display in their home. A great talent was lost when he died.
