Known for her violent temper, "Aunt Tank" was said, by my grandmother, to have destroyed the tombstone of her daughter, Sally Mae (Padgett) Gentry with an axe at Sardis Baptist Church cemetery. She believed that her mother had done this act because of the tragic nature of the death of her sister, Sally Mae Gentry and the placing of this first tombstone there by her husband. Carrie had another tombstone made with her daughter's maiden name listed on this stone and placed at Sardis where it rests today.
