!BIRTH: Hicks Family Bible; no civil birth record exists. Blaine stated that he was born in Rural, Clermont, Ohio (Rural is in Franklin Twp. and is the likely birth town of his brothers and sisters, unless stated otherwise)

Norwood, Ham., OH; a glazier) to Laura Francis Rummel (22 on 9 Nov 1918; Bond Hill, OH; parents: Arthur Rummel, Frances Rettesh; stenographer; res. Norwood, OH." (She d. 27 Feb 1952 (Ohio death cert.)

!DEATH: Personal knowledge of Norman Zezula (the death was on a Sunday in August 1985; probably on 18 or 25 Aug); Soc. sec. death index agrees with birth date; gives Aug 1985 for death date. His second wife (Elsie) is still living (March 1989)

MILITARY: He served in World War I in France (Co. C, l54th Inf). Norman Zezula has a photocopy of a brief letter (including the envelope) from Pvt. D. H. Rummel to Pvt. Blaine Hicks that was dated 20 SEP 1918.

(The letter was written merely to give Blaine his address ("I will not write very much as you may not get this letter") and asks  "How do you like army life?"
