Facts and Events
Name Benjamin D. Jackson
Gender Male
Birth? 12 Dec 1842 Pine Level, Montgomery Co., Alabama, United States
Marriage 9 Jun 1864 Somerset, Pulaski Co., Kentucky, United Statesto Candasier 'Candacy' Jane Troxell
Death? 2 Sep 1916 Huggins, Coffee Co., Alabama, United States

David Cowher has Benjamin's middle initial as 'D'. So does the record of Kim Poole sent by Cecil Revell. Kim's record "Benjamin D. Jackson, born December 12, 1842, in Dublin, Montgomery Co., Alabama. He married Jane Sloan." So this appears to be a conflict in his wife's name, but later info in Candasier's Notes explains this.

A descendant, Janis Owens posted this: "This is my gggrandmother. Her name is Candasier Jane Troxel (sometimes listed as Stronxill or a variation.) She was from Kentucky, married Ben when he was stationed in KY in the Civil War. She was a Cherokee Indian from the KY Troxel family." And this gggranddaughter has verified that the 1900 census below is the right Benjamin and his family. A potential problem I saw is that in the 1900 census it is said that Candace had six children. The gggrandaughter says Benjamin and Candasier had 7 children. And finding the 1880 census with the older 4 children plus George who is the same George with two other children in the 1900 census, verifies that Candasier did have 7 children.

Pierson (spelled Pearson on the census record.) This proves to me that this 1880 census is indeed the right Ben for John Lewis Jackson's son.

Candasier neither reads or write but Benjamin does.

Janis Owens writes: "Benjamin and brothers fought in CSA in same Alabama regiment - 3 Batt'n Hilliard's Legion, Alabama Volunteers. Ben was corporal. John Kirby Jackson (Ben's brother) was a sergeant and all the brothers distinguished themselves in service (and survived till Appomattox; not a small feat). Candacy is buried at Piney Grove in Geneva County, under tombstone that reads C. J. Jackson, wife of B. D. Jackson. He is assumed to be buried next to her, but his grave isn't marked.

"Uncle Elbert told me such sweet stories about old Ben that I am fond of him. When his wife Canadasier was old and infirm, he built her a wheelchair made of a dining room chair and wagon wheels so she could get around."
