Obituary; Benjamin L. Duncan; Feb 26, 1903 Benjamin L. Duncan The death of Mr. Benjamin Duncan, of Ashley, at one o'clock last Friday morning, was a surprise to his friends, in this place, as many of them did not know that he had been ailing. A few months ago he moved from his farm near Summit, to Ashley, where he engaged in the bakery business. For some weeks he has been in poor health and during the past few days took a sudden turn for the worse, and his death was due to nervous prostration. He was at one time associated with his brother, John Duncan, in the grocery business in this place, buying out the interest of the late Jacob Brand of the firm of Brand & Duncan. Prior to this time, he was in business with his brother William, now of Kansas, as proprietors of the Waterloo flouring mills, until the mill was destroyed by fire some years ago. After the firm of Duncan Bros., closed out the grocery business Mr. Benj. Duncan moved to a farm north of Waterloo, where he resided until he located in Ashley. He had a large number of relatives and friends who regret to know of his demise. Benjamin L. Duncan was born in Wayne Co, Ohio, Nov 7, 1811, and departed this life Friday morning, Feb 20, 1903 at Ashley, Indiana, aged 61 years, 3 month and 13 days. In the spring of 1853 he moved to Indiana with his father's family. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Louisa M. Jackman, and to this union were born four sons, three of whom survive their father, and with their mother mourn the loss of their loved one. The deceased was taken to his bed some three weeks prior to his death, and during his sickness manifested great interest in his spiritual welfare, so that on Wednesday last, Christ spoke peace to his soul. And he said,"Thy will be done on earth as it is done in heaven, " and "If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take," thus he died, knowing that
