[Note: this source presents no evidence to justify that this selection of parents is correct. However, it mentions that the appraisal of one Benjamin Butterfield dated Dec 1719 mentions his father Nathaniel. Additional note: the documents in the probate file, which may or may not include the claimed item, have on the back of the Dec 1719 distribution, what appears to be a separate and unrelated memo by Judge Francis Foxcroft, dated 1 March 1720/1 that addresses a charge for "three pounds ten shill[ings] annuity[?] to a Gdfather (now 76 years)". Note that the grandfather is not explicitly named, though as Joseph is deceased on this date, it would appear to apply to Nathaniel, but the arithmetic worked better using 1719 than 1720/1?? The handwriting is difficult to read.]

[The image on this page seems to show a 1716, even though it does run into the binding somewhat, so it is curious that the published record says 1715. However, the probate documents and the Woburn record make it clear that 1715 is correct. It is not clear if the image reflects a copy, as opposed to the original, which is one possible explanation?]

  5. To be of legal age (21) when he married in 1697, Benjamin must have been born by 1676. He was probably younger than his brother Nathaniel, b. 1673, very likely the eldest son. So his birth was probably about 1675.
