Austin Seward (ca 1799 - 1872) was one of the first residents of Bloomington. An accomplished blacksmith, he established the Seward Foundry in 1822, on the southwest corner of 7th Street and Walnut Street.

Seward is credited with the creation of the Monroe County Courthouse Fish Weathervane. He originally came to Bloomington from Richmond, Kentucky, and is buried in Dunn Cemetery adjacent to the Indiana Memorial Union on the Indiana University campus.

He is a charter member of the Monroe County Hall of Fame on which his plaque reads "Blacksmith, gunsmith, tool maker; Founder Seward and Company, 1821; Director, First Bloomington Town Band; Founding Member, First Presbyterian Church; Community pioneer."
