Will of Augustine Leftwich, Sr.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Augustine Leftwich Senr. of the County of Bedford and state of Virginia being Weak, Old & Infirm but In Perfect sences & Memory of Mind and Considering the Uncertainty of this Transitory Life knowing that It is allotted for all men once to die doe make & Order this my last Will and testament in the form and manner following to wit, first I commend my soul to God who gave it.
Item, I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Nancy Leftwich daughter of Jabez Leftwich my Negro Girl named (big) Fan. to her and her heirs forever.
Item, I lend to my beloved wife Elizabeth Leftwich as much of my estate as will make her life easy and Comfortable till her Decease, the sufficiency of which to be adjudged by my Executors hereafter named and after the decease of my wife that part of my Estate reserved for her to be equally divided among my children hereafter named in the same manner that the residue of my Estate is to be divided amongst them.
Viz. I give & bequeath to my sons William Leftwich, Thomas Leftwich Augustine Leftwich, Uriah Leftwich, John Leftwich, Littleberry Leftwich, Joel Leftwich, Jabez Leftwich & my Daughters Fanny Carter, Mary Early, and Nancy Pettross, all that part of my estate both Real & Personal which will not be reserved by my Executors for the Uuse of my wife during her natural life to them &: their heirs forever, share and share alike to be laid off in Lots as Equally as Possibly and drawn for by the Legatees, reserving to my grandson James Moorman a Tract of land which I formerly gave ham and a Negro girl Viney.
I do hereby Constitute and appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth Leftwich my executrix my son Thomas Leftwich & my friend David Saunders my whole and sole Executors to carry this Will and Testament Into Effect. In Witness whereof I doe hereunto set my hand & affix my Seal this tenth day of June In the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred & Ninety four.
Provided Nevertheless that if my Grand Daughter Nancy Leftwich within Named should Depart this life without an heir Lawfully gotten of her body that the within named (big) Fann and her Increase shall revert to my children to be divided amongst them In the same manner that the rest of my Estate Is divided.

At a court held for Bedford. County the 22nd day of June, 1795.
This last Will & Testament of Augustine Leftwich Deceased was proved by tile oath of John Trigg and Peyton Leftwich witnesses whoso names are thereunto subscribed and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Thomas Leftwich and David Saunders two of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto Certificate is granted them for obtaining probate thereof on Giving security. "hereupon they together with Christopher Clark and Charles Moorman their sep rities entered into & Acknowledged their bond in the penalty five Thousand Pounds Conditioned for the •true and faithfull administration of the said decedents, estate end performance of his wilI. Liberty being reserved the executrix therein named to Join in the probate when she shall think fit.
